Pediatric Annals Sept 2014 Predictors of Childhood Obesity and Pathogenesis of Comorbidities, M. Freemark MD. lists 8 factors that predispose to development of exogenous Childhood Obesity and # 6 is (drumroll please!) Formula (rather than breast) feeding. !!!
Announcement about a presentation at AAP conference on moms who choose to breastfeed their older babies beyond one year of age consider their child's physical and social development to be more important, while advice of health professionals, family and friends are least important, according to a study of 50,000 US women ages 18-50. Principal investigator is Alexis Tchaconas. The web site given didn't get me the abstracts promised so I'll write the speaker :-)
Surveys were sent to mothers via email lists from LLL, Facebook groups and online chat rooms that support BFing. Besides health benefits and bonding with their child, other top factors that influenced mothers to breastfeed beyond one year included enjoyment, support from spouse or partner, LLL support and not having to pay for formula :-) Pat in SNJ
