Thank you all so much for responding to my qustion regarding pacifier use in the hospital setting. We are getting rid of ours completely - they will not be stored ANYWHERE on the unit. My question to those of you who have done this in your hospital - how do you get around the research that shows pacifiers are good to use during painful procedures? I know that the mom can breastfeed during the procedure (or before), but what about those moms who are not breastfeeding? I know I'm going to get asked this question. Trying to be prepared.

There are a couple of other hospitals in the Phoenix area that have discontinued pacifiers, but they are still located on the unit for the met screens and are then tossed. My manager wants to completely get rid of them.

Thanks,
Brenda PHipps, BS, IBCLC
