Pat asked:
What is her age?

I believe she is 36 years old, I will ask her when I call her today. I don't see anything else in her medical history. She's not underweight, BMI maybe about 22, certainly not malnourished. Adequate protein and water intake.  I will also ask her how much lecithin she is taking, does anyone know what the recommended dose is?

I'm thinking that maybe a good plan for her would be to first try to stop lactation in her right breast. Gradually stepping down on feeding/pumping on the right breast and increase on the left breast. Then begin to decrease the lecithin, continuing to supplement with formula as necessary. Then begin gradually decreasing formula as her supply increases, with frequent weight checks on baby.  And of course encouraging her to let the baby nurse for a long time to ensure increased fat content in the milk. Any thoughts?

I don't know for certain that it's the lecithin, but at this point it maybe the only thing to try. The baby is taking large amounts of formula and getting less interested in the breast. It will likely wean within a couple months as the other baby did. It seem like it's worth a try anyway.

Thank you for your help,

Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC
