I think that another difference between some of the other credentials and
IBCLC is, besides the level of preparation, is the difference between the
accreditation agencies. I am not sure if in some of these organizations who
"credential,", that there are links and connections between those who
promote and teach the courses and who may profit from continuing classes
and accreditation.  The IBCLC credential is the gold standard in any case,
and the preparation needed to become IBCLC is the minimum for a practicing
IBCLC who sees clients and assesses/implements clinical solutions to
problems. It is important to take a long hard look at what we sign up for
and what we are striving for, and what really is a credential, as opposed
to a several day long course with or without hands on training and
evaluation of clinical practice skills.
