Hi Amy,
Very interesting case. I would not think weaning had anything to do with
this, especially in light of the fever, except that maybe the hormonal
milieu of lactating was masking this underlying illness. However, I think
many women, at the end of breastfeeding a toddler, were not doing much
breastfeeding at all, and I don't know that their hormones are much
different than non-lactating women.
The fever and the chills worry me a lot. All I can recommend is she work
with a very good and persistent healthcare provider to get to the bottom of
this.
