We have had a lively posting site for years that is run as a closed yahoo group instead of FB- we just didn't want to be surrounded by the "culture" of FB and some moms refuse to go on FB.
You can "invite" the moms and I strongly suggest posts be reviewed prior to releasing as some things may not be appropriate- like advertising their own businesses and events to the entire group or giving advice to each other that is not correct and the posting of pictures. There needs to be guidelines. And monitoring is very important and it takes time and vigilance. You need a clear goal as to what you want this site to function as and stick to it. Otherwise it can morph into something quite different. It's practically a full time job for one person, in our case it is the moderator of our face-to-face moms grp who also runs the online posting site.
