Hello Kirstin,
I will offer conjecture about why the 1ml of frozen colostrum was so thickened upon thawing out. It sounds like the freezing and storage process, even if only for a brief time, may have caused the dehydration of the colostrum, perhaps due to the method of storage/type of container allowing too much exposure of the colostrum to the cold air. Just a guess - -
With best regards,
Debbie

From Kirstin in Sydney: "At our hospital we have been suggesting to diabetic women from 36/40 to hand express colostrum and freeze it in case their baby requires extra after a breastfeed (due to hypoglycemia) in the early days. One mother today defrosted 1 ml of colostrum from a syringe and it had thickened like cream cheese. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Not sure if I can post a photo but I can if this is possible in the list."
