Jennifer quotes materials from Healthy Children about how they
'The Certified Lactation Counselor®, (CLC) certification is the
premierNational Certification in Lactation Management for the United
States.'

This leaves Healthy Children an out. They have only stated that CLC is a
*national* credential, while the IBCLC is international and in the quotes
Jen posted there is nothing about the international credential. Any
confusion arising from the coincidentally identical last three letters in
IBCLC and the CLC can be brushed off with 'let the buyer beware'.

I'm not defending Healthy Children's choice of language nor am I
criticizing it. Anyone who has experienced the wrath of someone who owns
thhe right to confer a legally defined credential, for implying that they
hold such a credential when they do not, will be scrupulously precise in
describing themselves to ensure that they are not vulnerable to legal
action. I've no idea whether IBLCE's attorneys have communicated with
Healthy Children on the topic but I do know that Healthy Children is run by
competent, intelligent people who know at least as much about breastfeeding
as they do about training people to work with breastfeeding and my strong
hunch is that they are well aware of the semantics they use.
