We have reciently initiated Colostrum swabbing in our level 3 NICU and have been using cotton tip applicators. It has been brought to our attention that there may be some concern that small bits of cotton could potentially end up in babys lungs.  Have any of you heard of this and if so, what are you using instead of the cotton tip applicators?  Is there any research to back this?  Nancy Wight can you speak to this?
