Hello to all of you,
(permission to post)
A mom called me for relactation; (baby is 24 days old).
She had her milk production dried up with cabergoline ("Dostinex") last
week:
monday evening, tuesday morning + evening, wednesday morning,
0.25 mg each time;
She regrets a lot; and:
She envisages to relactate, the problem is: how long before giving
breast (or breastmilk);
Counting 5 half-lives (63-69 hours), it takes 13 days before eliminating
the drug; which is a very lot;
she had other contacts giving her: from "now" to "3 weeks", before
contacting me;
On my own side, I have only Hale + 5 half-lives; I searched also in
Lactmed, nothing more was given compared with the Hale (2012) concerning
this problem;
And I have no clinical cases giving a clue;
The only thing is concerning moms with hyperprolactinemia, who can take
cabergoline (at low dose) and breastfeeding + monitoring the baby.
For instance, my answer was counting 5 half-lives, call a center in
France which may have collected a case or two, contact Lactnet with her
permission, so she can take an informed decision.
Maybe one of you has detail to share?
Thanks in advance,
Breast regards,
Françoise Coudray, IBCLC
