Dear Jane,
I did a presentation to some hygienists a few years ago and
breastfeeding and dentistry and found some interesting stuff.
Dr. Brian Palmer says that the introduction of processed foods is a
major culprit for dental caries. This makes sense. Real food requires
real chewing and the food rubbing against the teeth.
Also, Strep Mutan, the bacteria is a huge factor of whether children get
cavities or not. Neither of my children 15 and 19 have any cavities but
my husband and I also have very few. I think our family does not have
this bacteria. Again, Dr. Palmer said that Strep Mutan is a social
desease being passed around. This is a newer introduction into our species.
Although Dr. Palmer is sadly no longer with us his work is.

Thank you,
