Some of the research I have been seeing on changes to infant formula
relates to the amount of protein in the standard formulas which is way too
much. It is this high protein level that is one of the contributors to the
development of obesity. Manufacturers are thinking of lowering the protein
content of some of the formulas. Human milk has a range of calorie content
from 19-24 calories per ounce. Lowering the calories in formula by one
calorie per ounce seems to me to be just another gimmick to fool people
into thinking that this product is closer to breastmilk. Probably just a
means to sell more formula by giving the appearance of contributing to a
solution to the obesity problem rather than as a cause of it.
