I have been told we cannot discuss a short tight frenulum, or use the lay man's term some people call "tongue tie".  We can only state have your Ped check the anatomy of the baby's tongue.  Otherwise we are diagnosing.  It is a serious issue as there are a couple of Drs up in arms with this issue.

As a labor nurse we can do a vag exam and describe the cervix.  We can describe a raised area on the baby's skin, or a dimpling, correct?

As a nurse we cannot diagnose.  But I thought the term ankyloglossia was the diagnosis. As far as our scope of practice as an IBCLC what is considered, legal?
