Since I go into C-sections to facilitate non-separation and immediate skintoskin and sometimes videograph and photograph this, I can speak to the reason this is being done.  If a baby is lodged deep in the pelvis or turned oddly so that the head is not easily grasped and lifted out of the uterus, it is less potentially harmful to mom to use the vacuum rather than extending incisions or blindly digging around to get the baby out.  Just my observation.

Hello, 



At our facility we have seen a number of c/s deliveries with vacuum being used. There does not seem to be a clear reason for why. I can not imagine there being any evidence based reason for this. We are concerned with this practice and its impact on babies and their ability to Breastfeed successfully. Does anyone have suggestions for research articles on the risks of vacuum extraction? Does anyone else encounter this at their facility?
