This subject heading jumped out at me. What is being said can mostly be
applied to *expressing* - which may or may not include pumping. Remember,
in countries or regions with low incomes, the pump companies don't bother
to market this type of product. There's no market and no money to be made
as when a baby can't breastfeed directly, there's hand-expression. If
mothers haven't been told that a machine is "better" their confidence isn't
undermined.
Please, when discussing removing milk from the breasts (expressing) when
the baby is unable to or is separated, let's use the term "expressing"
milk, not "pumping", which is one aspect in just some countries. Let's be
global and inclusive and think beyond the square if we are from a
rich country where mothers' choices have narrowed to pumps, often the brand
their insurance approves.
