I am not in the hospital, but may be my office-based experience can help.

Even before I decided to go completely "baby-friendly" we did have a
significant surplus of the artificial milks samples. We were donating
them through the division of youth and family services to women's
shelters (along with emphasizing the importance of continuation and/or
re-establishing breastfeeding in crisis situations - but who would
listen...:'( ). Unfortunately company representatives were not bothered
with that type of "re-distribution", as we were actually acting as their
accomplices, still spreading the message of acceptability of artificial
milks as a substitute for the breast milk :(.

It took me about 2 years to stop the shipments from M**-J*** which did
not have representatives in my area for ages, just mailing boxes. Would
you believe - two years of refusing to accept the shipments and sending
them back, until they finally got the message! R** and N** were much
easier - just a couple of heart to heart conversations with the reps
that neither them nor their samples are welcomed here. Both reps were
trying to keep pushing their products for older children, but with
exception for Pedialyte freezer pops (that was discontinued as samples
about 3-4 years ago anyhow) I was neither recommending nor accepting any
of their products since opening my office 19 years ago, so these
relationships were easy to sever too.
