Tricia's question sent me looking through the BFHI document. And Tricia, it appears that you can't give *anything* away, even to mothers who request to exclusively formula feed.

I'll confess I has never read the "acceptable list" of mothers who may need to avoid breastfeeding. Women who are attempting to breastfeed after a breast reduction (or implants) are not in the situation of "needing" to avoid breastfeeding, but may not be able to exclusively breastfeed. It seems that BFHI (and WHO, etc) do not acknowledge the particular challenges of this population and would require additional documentation of counseling about ebf in these instances.

Can anyone here speak to how their already-Baby-Friendly hospital handles this? (sensitively, I hope!)

Thanks-
