Dana, the World Health Organization and other public health bodies, such as
the National Health & Medical Research Council (Australia) in its recently
reviewed and updated infant feeding guidelines, have maintained the
recommendation for "about 6 months", after reviewing the evidence. It is
easy to refer mothers to online souces such as the WHO and other Public
Health statements. Consumers can then see for themselves that top-level,
reputable bodies continue to recommend. "about 6 months".
Does anyone have a quick link to recent statements? I have the link to the
Australian NHMRC documents, but for Canada you probably need other
references.

Subject: intro of solid food at 4 months
Lots of buzz on the radio this week about the importance of introducing
solid food to infants at 4 months. I am aware of the research about less
chance of allergies when foods are introduced earlier than 6 months, but
what about gut closure that doesn't happen until 6 months? Do you think
the recommendations for exclusivity until 6 months will change in the
near future? Lots of MD's are recommending solids at 4 months around
here. What are you telling your moms when their MD's recommend
initiating solids at 4 months?
