Dear Erin,
There are some awesome activities related to "how your body works" -- that
is, how you see, how you hear, how your reflexes work, how your brain works, how
genetics works, etc. For example:
Test for colorblindness by looking at cards that show designs in specific
colors (red and green). Can you make out the pattern?
Test reflexes by having one person hold a ruler between another person's
thumb and forefinger, and then drop it. How quickly can the second person grab
the ruler? Measure speed by the number of inches the ruler fell. Try again, or
trade places.
Have one person close their eyes and put out their index finger. Have
another person touch the finger with two ends of a paper clip bent into a "U" (the
two ends should be no more than 1/2 inch apart). The person should feel one
sensation instead of two, because the nerve endings are too far apart to
perceive both.
Do the tongue rolling thing to see who has inherited the ability to roll
his/her tongue.
Etc.!
Best,
Lisa Rudy
