> The data were developed from 14 Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals. The total sample size from those hospitals was over 160,000 with nearly 110,000 babies having exclusive breastfeeding during their stay. The IV fluid practices are likely variable, like they would be across institutions in the real world. Breastfeeding support also is likely to be variable as in the real world though some of the centers are Baby Friendly. Of note, within these 14 centers even with the variable practices, the weight loss curves for each center were remarkably similar. We have subsequently compared the data from Northern California with our institution in Central Pennsylvania. The results, presented at the 2015 Pediatric Academic Societies meeting in San Diego showed again, remarkable similarity in the weight loss curves this time from a distinct geographic location with different race/ethnic composition and likely differing maternal/newborn care practices.
