I didn't tell the story properly or wholey but thank you for all the thoughts and words of wisdom.  I did not diagnose and only offered an alternative , which is what mother was asking for.  We discussed true characteristics or conjunctivitis vs congestion, the alternatives for care.  Someone over heard me talking to mom and reported that talk with a physician on the team but not in care of this patient.
I appreciate all your words.  I have taken the posts very serious and will make changes,  thank you
