I had a PEDS tell one of my moms to put the baby in her crib at 7 pm and not go back in that room until 7am! Some babies wouldn't survive a night like that. This is a subject near and dear to my heart as this was the way I was raised. I suffered many consequences from it - very fearful and mistrustful. Not to
mention, I banged my head rhythmically on my pillow in order to fall asleep for as long as I could remember - every night. Try going on a sleep-over as a child with that habit! I was basically shamed out of it by the time I was 10. My brother "rocked"in bed. I parented my younger siblings to sleep by singing to them or lying down with them till they fell asleep.
Needless to say, I breastfed and co-slept with my children longterm. I believe it was very healing for me. I just never want any child to go through what I did.
