This is a very frustrating situation for mothers. It could be that her milk
is not letting down so quickly and baby is frustrated, sucking and not
getting anything. In this situation I suggest expressing a little by hand
before putting baby to breast so that he gets those first drops instantly
and may calm down. Another idea is to give him a few drops on a spoon and
as he relaxes to take that then immediately put him to the breast.
Obviously position needs to be checked, is baby placed comfortably, not too
high, not too low so that when he finally latches on he gets the milk.
