>> To counter that article, what that couple didn't seem to know or be told is that it's the insurance company's - not the customer's - job to tell the mom which providers are in network. If they don't have someone in network (which my understanding is most IBCLCs are not part of networks because of the poor reimbursement), then they must cover at in-network rates.  When I get this question, I also tell the parents that simply having IBCLC after a provider 'a name does not mean they are a practicing IBCLC. I'm a CNM, not practicing but I my license is current so I use this in my credentials.  But a friend who is a practicing CNM (and is in network) was and is still IBCLC but is not practicing lactation - insurance sees that IBCLC and assumes they are an LC.
