I think everyone is being a wee bit sceptical about reactions from this new dad – who else has every facial expression and body movement under a microscope all the time?
In the circumstances they seem to be coping – the mother chose her midwife and birth plan, which is more than many of us can do. She gave birth a few days late and was not induced – she looked great when leaving the hospital and when walking did not show signs of sore perineum so presumably did not have episiotomy; and she went home to be mothered by her mother – what could be better?
As for dad- he might be a soldier who has served in Afghanistan, but he wiped his brow with a sigh of relief after he managed to fix the baby-seat into the car while the world looked on.
If they continue to project such a positive image of parenting I think that there will be an upward trend in the UK for choosing natural births and breastfeeding and perhaps less influence from those so-called celebs who are too posh to push and opt for Cesareans.
May they thrive.
