We have tested the Calma nipple. Of the 37 designs/brands we have tested thus far, it has the fastest flow. (example: Dr. Browns narrow slow: 3.03 mL/20 cycles, compared with Calma: 14.2 mL/20 cycles). I have seen many babies choke with it, and so far every adult volunteer who has sucked on this nipple has also choked (we do some real-life examples when we speak).
It is true that the opening is large yet nothing drips out. However, dripping doesn't matter (!!!) because dripping can be controlled during a feed. On the other hand, flow cannot be controlled. Nipple flow will impact a baby's organization for suck:swallow:breathe. Too fast (or too slow) can negatively impact feeding.
The wording on this specific brand is misleading...whether or not a bottle drips does not make it like breastfeeding. Moms need to know this.
