I am looking for information for a very brave young women and her medical team. She has been on crutches for about 10 years following a mysterious infection/inflammation which begun in her tibia. Also involves her hips. She has had many surgeries. She is now pregnant and really would like to breastfeed. I have shared the pages from MMM on morphine with her. Below are the relevant details from her recent email:
"So I’m currently on DF118 (30mg dihydrocodeine tartrate and 133.34mg lactose monohydrate). They come in a standard oral dose of 30mg tablets. I currently take two tablets at breakfast, lunch and supper. I’ve recently had to return to 6 tablets a day but am still trusting that my pain will decrease so that I can decrease my dosing accordingly. And even more so, we’re trusting that I won’t have to go higher – I think I’m actually going to just try to manage with this even if it gets worse.
Post-operatively/Caesar I’m not 100% on the specific pain management at this stage apart from the epidural for 48 hours. I’m not sure that I can have IV morphine as I’ve become allergic to mist morph. I’ve previously had pethidine post-operatively as I respond better to this than morphine but if I can take the morphine, I think I’d rather try that for our baby. Alternatively, we might see if I can cope on DF118 only?? This is part of the reason for the extended epidural."
