Hi All,
I need some information and input on a situation:
2nd baby---bf 1st but had production issues as a combination of tt baby and
mom's thyroid levels. 2nd baby has been thriving and is now 4 months old.
Mom had postpartum thyroiditis again so stopped levothyroxine while she was
hyperthyroid for a couple months. Her thyroid level is now very low and
she just started back on the levo on Monday when her lab results were
back. For the last 5 days, her milk supply seems very low. Baby used to be
satisfied on one side, but now she is draining both sides and still
hungry. By the evening, she seems unable to get anything out and just
cries :( She won't take a bottle and mom doesn't have any breastmilk
saved.
My understanding is that it can take 4-6 weeks for symptoms to improve.
Will it take that long for milk production to respond? We are moving
forward with additional ways to support/increase production but does any
one know if it will take that long for production to respond to meds?
Thanks,
Michele
