Because I don't have enough to do (ha!), I am in school to be a paramedic
(I'm currently a volunteer EMT). In class tonight we were practicing field
deliveries with a pretty realistic "Sim Mom" who pushed and screamed and
produced a wet, slippery baby. It was a female body with a male head, which
was a little weird. Of the eight paramedic students in the room, with five
different birth scenarios, I was the only one who thought to put the baby to
the breast. Not a single other person did that, even with a hemorrhage.
Fortunately, the instructor reminded everyone in the debrief that that was
an important thing to consider.
