There are various anecdotal reports from some parts of the world, but no one
wants to be quoted. Some anecdotal reports are likely to be inaccurate
because of cross-cultural miscommunication. Alexander von Humboldt reported
a case in the north of South America ( before today's national boundaries)
of a man whose wife had died. He was an experienced observer. I don't have
the details in front of me, but the book would have been published much
later (if I remember correctly).
My reference is:
- von Humboldt A. Travels and researches of Baron Humboldt. New York: J&J
Harper, 1833, 79.
