I have a mother that has stated she is having trouble with an excessive gassy baby. Baby exclusively breastfed since birth. 11 weeks old. Gaining well. Mother was told to remove dairy (and baby was put on zantac but showed no improvement so mother quit the zantac to baby). Baby showed improvement without dairy but without dairy the BM's became more mucusy.
Ped told her to give alimentum yesterday so baby had 4 oz yesterday..and breastfed the rest of the day. Mother last evening noted stringy blood clots in the BM by that evening which she has never noted before without the alimentum.
Now the ped wants her to stop BFing all together and only give alimentum to "restart" her stomach. Could the alimentum have caused the bloody stools(that is my thought--only "new" thing introduced) and have you ever heard of such a thing to "reset" the stomach?
