My personal opinion is that these moms would benefit most if they stay on it through the entire pregnancy, so they can have better alveolar tissue growth.
Do the study! Half of moms needing metformin to get pregnant get taken off it as usual, half stay on through the pregnancy...optimal lactation oversight...does it help?
