My #1 suggestion for a community based group: keep away from clinical settings.
My successful groups have been in the reserved spaces of cozy coffee shops/cafes/parish centers. Other locations were simply not comfortable enough for tired moms to do the work to get there. The parish center sometimes makes it hard to get people to leave after two or three hours, since it is a converted house and has a living room, a full kitchen, a separate room for kiddos who want space, art supplies, and toys for toddlers. The cafe has wingback chairs, but also a great big table, if we need to be up close and intense about something.
Never "make do" with a space. I've always regretted it when I've tried something less than ideal just to make sure I've got a place.
