Nice story, Betsy! The whole saga is so familiar. We need examples
like this to motivate ourselves - and nothing means more to the
clinicians than hearing back from satisfied mothers.
I almost don't want to mention how smoothly referrals for treatment of
tongue tie have been going lately where I work. Like mentioning a
no-hitter :-P I've taken to sending immediate feedback to the ENT
docs who do frenulotomies here. 'Jane Doe came straight back to
clinic after you released her baby's tongue tie. For the first time
she could breastfeed absolutely painlessly. She did not believe the
baby was actually nursing because the pain was gone, and baby was more
contented after this feed than she had ever seen her before. We will
continue to keep in touch with her over the next couple of weeks and
let you know how things progress. Thanks so much for your help so
far!'
I am just grateful for every successful referral I make, and I figure
every time the ENT dept gets this kind of feedback, it makes it that
much easier for the next mother and baby.
Rachel Myr, wondering how many hundred TTs I missed before I knew what
to look for, in Kristiansand, Norway
