Claire
What a good and thorough history you've given us! Clearly, this mom
has been treated exhaustively for Thrush, but the breast and nipple
pain is severe and continues. I've worked with mothers whose only
symptoms were breast and nipple pain, as you describe, and it turned
out to be a bacterial infection which needed at least two courses of
Abx to resolve. The most recent one was identified as MRSA. If this
was my client, I'd recommend returning to her doctor and asking for a
culture of the milk, and a nipple swab to test for bacterial
infection. Please let us know how this turns out. Best wishes to
this brave mother.
