I'm with Pat. Vitamin A toxicity resolves safely on its own when you stop
overdosing the baby. My nutrition professor showed us pictures in 1978 of a
v.young child admitted to hospital with mysterious neurological findings.
Docs were baffled until child's twin sister developed same symptoms just
days later. Turned out mother had been feeding them tons of pureed chicken
liver because it was so packed with nutrients. Their pediatrician father
had no idea what his kids were eating :-P
Chicken liver was discontinues and both children recovered without other
intervention or sequelae.
The mother in Robin's case should make sure that it gets written up as an
example of how inappropriate vitamin supplementation can be dangerous.
Mother may have an easier time checking her blood levels of Vit A than her
milk. Either way, stopping the prenatal vitamins is far preferable to
stopping breastfeeding! Sheesh.
