Dear all,
When do premature babies in your hospital start drinking from the breast? What are the indicators for start feddeing at the breast and what are the contra-indications?
I'm an IBCLC in the NICU of an academic hospital in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). We admit premature babies, born after 24 weeks gestation. Our current protocol says baby should be off c-pap to be able to start drinking from the breast. Some babies seem te be able to drink before that. There's hardly any literature on this subject, so I need your experience and case-reports.
Kind regards,
Teddy Roorda, IBCLC
