<On average, how long would most say a first time outpatient consult with feeding assessment would take. I know there are many details that would gauge the length of time it takes, so I am just asking what most do for an average.
And then, if a follow up appt is needed, what would the average follow up be, given that again, would be doing another feeding assessment (not just a weight check). >
If I'm going to a mother's home, 1.5-3 hours, depending on the situation, whether baby is ready to eat when I get there, etc. When I'm seeing mothers at the "clinic," I'm given 45 minutes. Definitely less than ideal, better than 15 -30. I end up skimping on the history, don't always get to observe feedings at both breasts or "allow" the leisurely feeds many babies take, and if the baby just ate 45 minutes ago, oh well. That then means more f/u appointments.
When going to a mother's home, it probably takes less time for a f/u appointment, again depending on many variables.
