Alright, IBCLC practitioners worldwide .... haven't we said for years that
it is important for the future of our credential for people to have access
to great classroom and supervised clinical education?

Now is the chance for those of you who have experience as instructors,
mentors and educators to help make it happen. LEAARC is seeking board
members.

Lactation Education Accreditation and Approval Review Committee (LEAARC)
is the organization that helped developed a college-level curriculum on BF
and human lactation. They work with an *independent* accreditation board
(CAAHEP); it is CAAHEP that is tasked with actually accrediting
institutions of higher education to provide the education. LEAARC also
approves short-term breastfeeding-centered classes, for those seeking
their 90 hours in order to take the IBLCE exam.

Both IBLCE *and* ILCA are seeking nominations for LEAARC Board members.
IBLCE and ILCA will submit Board-member candidates to LEAARC; LEAARC will
make the final selections. It is part of the process by which ILCA (the
professional assn) and IBLCE (the certifying organizaiton) helped to "seed"
for formation and establishment of LEAARC (the educational arm of the
profession) ... but are now appropriately withdrawing from that direct role.

I don't care if you submit your resume to IBLCE, or to ILCA. The ILCA form
is here
http://www.ilca.org/files/Broadcast_Emails/LEAARC_nomination_form_2012.doc.

What is important is that you DO THIS if you have even a tiny shred of
interest in seeing that our profession develop into one that is perceived
as relevant, accessible (for IBCLC-aspirants), credible and reimburseable.

IBCLCs are the essential credential for lactation support ... and we know
that one of the biggest barriers today is fair and manageable entry into
the field.
