Brief History:
Baby born at 25.6 weeks with a twin sister. Now DOL 140. Still has occasional significant events, is tolerating feeding via NG tube and working on PO skills. Hx of seizures.
Mom has been pumping for the girls since day one. Mom has anorexia and has a huge milk supply.
Recently one of the nurses noticed a sour smell to mom's milk. Didn't use that milk. But later in the week noticed mom's milk had a "chemical smell to it". Mom is on meds for a seizure disorder which could explain the smell.
Within the week, milk was thawed as it has for the past 100+days but it "curdled" when the fortifier was added.
Staff say the same fortifier was used to fortify others milk without incidence and this isn't happening at home with baby's twin, who is getting fortified breastmilk. Baby refuses milk often but we think that is because of seizures not anything to do with the milk.
It happened twice and hasn't happened in the past week that I am aware.
Any thoughts?
