I have never heard of this. I am in a level 3 NICU in the US. I've been an
NICU RN for 34 years. The only thing I could conceive of as being done for
similar purposes is that we have just recently started using mother's milk
to do oral care on very tiny babies that are NPO. I'm not sure that our
protocol is even completely in place yet.

Subject: enema with mothersmilk
Dear colleagues,
I'm searching for evidence (or best practice protocol) for using mothersmilk
as an enema on a level 3 NICU in the Netherlands.
I know this is common practice in some hospitals already, but up until now I
haven't found any evidence to do so.
Tank you!
Frederique Beukhof, nicu nurse & ibclc
