A mom who I helped with bresatfeeding  - day 10 baby was well over birth weight
despite horribly painful latch - she's a very dedicated first-time mom!

She had been using a nipple shield, and baby would not latch without it, but
with laid back positioning, baby latched on painlessly - and mom and dad
return-demonstrated they didn't need me!

Later on, mom called to report that she has a crack at the base of her nipple,
redness and heat.  I recommended she see her doctor.  He diagnosed thrush and
prescribed nystatin cream - she went to the Pediatrician and got oral Nysatin
for baby.  Now she informs me that the Nystatin burns when she applies it to her
breast. I've never had a mom report burning when applying it....

She still describes burning and itching when she releases milk from only one
breast - I really never thought this was thrush...but now wonder what to
suggest, as the MD is convinced it is thrush...

HELP!  (and of course tomorrow I leave for Cleveland and visiting grandkids - so
please e-mail me directly: [log in to unmask])
