As a birth person, the first thing I ask when a woman goes back to red
bleeding in the first 3 months is "Are you getting your rest?" From the
sounds of this case, I would suggest spending a couple of days in bed with
the mother wearing just panties/pad and the baby skin to skin (with just a
diaper). In my experience, the bleeding diminishes right away with the
extra naps and the woman can see that she needs to cool it and not be

There's actually one published case report of a mom with hyperlactation due
to a retained placental fragment. You should be able to find it using google
