I mention Reglan to my clients because many of them have had their Dr
recommend it. Then I discuss the risks, the cons and the very few pros.
Most moms are absolutely NOT interested in the potential of depression
(because reglan crosses the blood brain barriers and goes right into the
CNS) and NONE are interested in the possible permanent side effects of long
term reglan use of Tardive Dyskinesia (sp?). Nothing like telling a mom it
is a short term use ONLY medicine that has been black boxed by the FDA due
to permanent neurological damage risk after 3 months of use.
I give plenty of information on domperidone, talk about possible side
effects and how to get it if her Dr won't prescribe. We talk about orphan
drug status and the nonsense the FDA pulled out of it you know what several
years ago about how supposedly dangerous Dom is because someone with a
cardiac issues was given 800mg IV and died. Big difference between IV use
and oral... I also talk herbs and other options.
Anyway - those are my comments on reglan. I NEVER EVER recommend it - I
always recommend against it.
Warmly,
Jaye
