Nestle is getting away with what ever they want because organizations 
are letting them.  Were the US organizations,  who encourage 
breastfeeding, (USBC, NABA, LLL, AAP, AAM, Surgeon General, CDC to name 
a few) willing to speak out / do a press release about the Newark / 
Nestle and Michigan / Nestle partnerships, (and investigate which other 
cities and states have also partnered with Nestle?) NO!

Many of the organizations Maria Parlapiano and I contacted, begging for 
help, did not even respond to our many emails, (including detailed 
documentation and research), a few politely wrote back saying, "we don't 
get involved", while others told us to stop bothering them. Maria and I 
spent 4 - 5 hours a day, 7 days a week for 6 months, (as volunteers) 
trying to get an organization willing to speak out but ...there is a 
great big void across the US.

Individual people, a few US breastfeeding support groups and the 
international breastfeeding organizations gave us, and the "Stop Newark 
/ Nestle Now" petition, good support but individual people with no 
letterhead are not taken seriously.  We must lobby our own 
organizations, (whether we are lactation consultants, nutritionists, 
doctors, nurses, doulas, physios etc.)  to do something.  And what about 
the US Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics?  They recommend breastfeeding 
but their Code of Ethics allows them to work with Nestle (and the other 
formula companies). The outgoing chair of the USBC (US Breastfeeding 
Committee) is on the Board of the Academy. The new chair of the USBC, is 
Cathy Carothers, also pres of ILCA. ILCA felt they couldn't do a press 
release because they were an international organization and the focus 
(at that point, was the US) despite the fact what Nestle is doing in the 
US is happening around the world.  Wouldn't a heads - up to our 
colleagues in other countries make sense?  People could start with 
lobbying Cathy to do a press release about WHO / Nestle. Good luck!

As of 5 minutes ago the USBC had never posted anything, (on their site) 
about the Newark / Nestle petition nor have they posted any action 
against any formula company despite the fact their mission statement is 
to: Protect, Promote and Support Breastfeeding.  Not sure why this is 
but maybe they are afraid of offending their partners (quite a few are 
partnered with industry). The USBC also say their partners are like - 
minded but are they?

How many organizations in the US have endorsed the Code?  My recent 
experience is that the answer is very few.   Most don't even know that 
the US has endorsed the Code!

Nestle is quite open in saying they plan to take over the education of 
infant nutrition world wide.  They also plan to take over the world's 
water supply and then sell our water back to us. (see the Nestle expose 
documentary "Bottled Life".
