Oooh, pricking up ears..... I haven't heard of this - please can you
tell me more?
Thanks
Pamela (who also agrees with what's been suggested for Lea's
case. When a baby flutter-sucks at the breast for long periods,
appearing to be asleep, only to wake and be distressed when taken
off, it's a sign that he's not taking enough milk. Prolonging
breastfeeding is wasting the baby's energy and wasting mom's time.
Baby usually has high body tone, but conserves energy as much as
possible by dozing at breast. I'd recommend switch-nursing with
compression for 20 mins max, then stop, feed supplements (hopefully
EBM) and pump/express what the baby has left behind. Should only
take an hour. Start again not more than two hours later. This
increases baby's intake, drains breasts really well, re-stimulating
what sounds like a flagging supply.... and eventually it has a chance
of coming right...of course baby may need ABM supplements too, but
rule #1 is feed the baby ...)
