Rachel asks " does it usually take as long as 10 days to get a full supply?"
It depends. When we start expressing early and frequently, it often takes
less time. BUT, most of our moms have caesareans, and between being doped,
needing sleep, having dressings done, visitors, non-supportive staff etc, we
sometimes don't always get the frequency we need until about day 5 - then
supply picks up quickly. Our C-sec mothers are discharged on Day 4, then
come in daily to be with their premies. They don't always express as often
as needed at home. It is sometimes quite challenging to motivate mothers,
but somehow our little ones rarely receive formula.
