I think the key word here is "hand" meaning women who touch their breast early and often - massage, compression, expression will nurse better, longer.  Why?  Because they are familiar with the equipment!  How they feel - all the time.  I am always surprised when women come in and have not touched their own breasts or touch them like they are foreign objects.  I often say to my clients : your breasts tell the story of your life - if something is going on - you'll feel it there first - pay touch and pay attention to your breasts.
