They were cochineal insects (dactylpius ) used for red coloring in Starbucks 
Frappichino (or some such drink.)
If you want to see a pix go to the Fooducate blog-Eat a bit better.  On the 
right side is a list of favorites -red bugs about 1/2 way down.  The first 
article tho  is unbelievable (Guess what's in the picture) , makes little 
red bugs seem insignificant!  I read Fooducate EVERY day, :-)  Pat in SNJ
