Dear All,
I was listening to ABC Radio National's "First Bites" program this afternoon (Saturday, 9th Nov). Part of today's segment discussed some examples of marketing of unhealthy products (tobacco, fast foods) and the strategies the companies have used to seem to be "helping" governments and regulators. Some of the speakers showed the falseness of this, of having the fox regulate the chook-yard (chicken coop). The segment by Professor Mark Daube from Western Australia was of particular interest. Although it wasn't mentioned, there were, I believe, some obvious applications to the marketing of items under the scope of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. The example of tobacco marketing after governments tried to take action may be known to you, but it is work revisiting. There was also comment on obesity from a number of viewpoints.
To listen yourselves, the link is: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/rnfirstbite/are-we-eating-ourselves-to-death3f/5076592 That's "rn" (for radio national) not "m", in the "rnfirstbite" part of the link.
